The Baile Charme AI Trend: Seu Zé and the Real Dance Behind It
Who Seu Zé is, where the clip comes from, what baile charme is, which sound it uses and how to make your own version from one photo.
Last updated: 2026-10-26
The baile charme AI trend is a run of TikTok remakes of one clip: Seu Zé, an AI-made white-haired grandpa in a red shirt and suspenders, out-dancing a packed night-time baile charme in Rio de Janeiro. People swap someone new into the dancer's place and keep everything else, from the floodlights to the crowd. On Charme AI you do the same with one photo: the AI copies the Seu Zé clip and puts you in the middle of it, with the clip's original sound.
Where the Baile Charme AI Trend Started
The clip was posted on October 16, 2026 by the TikTok account @seuzerj. It runs 27 seconds and its caption opens with "Ninguém botou fé no vovô no baile charme", Portuguese for "nobody believed in grandpa at the baile charme". The caption adds that Seu Zé went out at Pedra do Sal, but grew up at the Madureira viaduct. On October 26, 2026 the post had about 139,000 views and 4,100 likes, and its sound is listed as "som original - seuzerj".
The scene itself is older. On August 14, 2026, the charme dancer Zenegão (@zenegaooficial) posted himself dancing charme at Pedra do Sal under the floodlights, with the caption "Pega essa energia" and #bailecharme. By October 26, 2026 it had about 2.5 million views and 401,000 likes. The Seu Zé clip is an AI remake of that same moment: the same lights, the same crowd and the same man in a white tank top dancing at the lead dancer's shoulder. The Seu Zé caption credits @iae.zenegao as the original.
Is Seu Zé Real?
No. Seu Zé de Madureira is made by AI; there is no real grandpa behind the clip. The person who really danced in that scene is Zenegão, and the AI version puts Seu Zé in his place. Every remake since then does the same thing one more time: same scene, new dancer.
What Baile Charme Is
A baile charme is a party, and charme is the dance done there. It's a Black urban party culture of Rio de Janeiro that began in the 1970s and '80s, with line and side steps to R&B and soul. Its best-known home is the party under the Viaduto de Madureira, the Madureira overpass in Rio's North Zone. Pedra do Sal, where Zenegão danced in his clip, is a historic square in Rio's port area, in the Saúde neighborhood, known for samba and street parties. You can read more about charme on Wikipedia.
Why Everyone Is Remaking It
From October 18, 2026, CapCut tutorial accounts started posting how to turn a photo into the baile charme video. The biggest one, posted on October 19, had about 1.8 million views; others reached about 729,000 and 391,000. Tutorials exist in Spanish, Italian and English.
Most of those remakes put a famous actor's or footballer's face on the dancer. We don't show those, and Charme AI doesn't accept photos of celebrities or public figures. The version worth posting is the one with you, or a friend who said yes, in the middle of the crowd.
What the AI Version Takes From the Clip
The AI copies the Seu Zé take and only changes the dancer.
From the original clip:
- the packed night-time party under the floodlights
- the handheld phone camera and the crowd around the dancer
- the charme moves and their timing, from the look back at the camera to the turn
- the dancer at the shoulder (the man in the white tank top)
- the original sound of the Seu Zé post, added to every video
From your photo:
- your face, hair and body
- the clothes you wear in the photo (you aren't dressed in Seu Zé's red shirt and suspenders)
- a second person, if your photo has two: they take the place of the dancer at your shoulder
The burned-in caption of the original post is removed. The result is a vertical 9:16 MP4 in 720p with no watermark, 6, 10 or 15 seconds long. It's AI, so your face and moves can come out slightly differently from the original.
Which Sound the Videos Use
Every video made here carries the Seu Zé post's own sound: the party music and the crowd from that clip. The CapCut tutorials for the trend use "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice from TikTok's library instead, so you will hear both on TikTok.
Make Your Own Version
Open the generator on the homepage, sign in with Google, upload one photo and pick 6, 10 or 15 seconds. The longest version has the whole routine. Credits come in one-time packs starting at $9.90 for 20 credits, which is one 15-second video. For photo tips and what each length shows, read how to make a charme AI video.
Join the Trend Responsibly
- Use your own photo, or get permission before putting someone else in a video.
- Everyone in the photo should be 18 or older.
- Do not use photos of celebrities, politicians or other public figures.
- Say your clip is AI-generated when you post it.
Questions About the Trend
Who is the grandpa in the baile charme video? He's Seu Zé de Madureira, an AI-made character with white hair, round glasses, a red shirt and black suspenders. He isn't a real person; the real dancer in the scene he comes from is Zenegão.
Where was the original baile charme clip filmed? Zenegão's clip was filmed at Pedra do Sal, a historic square in Rio de Janeiro's port area. The Seu Zé caption says he grew up at the Madureira viaduct, home of Rio's best-known baile charme.
Is Charme AI made by the creators of the clip? No. Charme AI is an independent tool and isn't affiliated with TikTok, CapCut, @seuzerj, Zenegão or any baile charme party or venue.
Can I put a friend in the video too? Yes. Upload one photo with both of you; the second person takes the place of the dancer at your shoulder.
